OLD NAVY LOGO TEES - SPRING/SUMMER 20

This is a collection of graphic tees I designed to expand on the idea of the classic Old Navy “Logo Tee” for their Graphics Team. I created a collection for their women’s and men’s categories. After completing an analysis of how other brands are creating their own line of “Logo Tees” I saw three major trends.

  1. Scenic Backdrops

  2. Hand-lettering / Vintage feeling scripts fonts

  3. Traditional and Non-traditional Rainbow colorways

I was really inspired to play with the traditional oval that encompasses the Old Navy logo to expand into the scenic backdrop trend I saw for the Men’s collection. The oval to me transformed into a sun while going through the ideation process. I felt a sun was fitting due to Old Navy’s California sensibility and that their home office is in San Francisco. I used the recognizable Old Navy blocky typeface for two of the tees but wanted to explore creating a typeface that had a completely different feel to it. As you’ll see in my 2nd design I created a textured hand-lettered typeface.

For the women’s collections I wanted to explore the rainbow trend I saw with fun ways of displaying type. When diving more into these trends I saw a lot of blocky collegiate feeling typefaces, which works well with Old Navy’s already san serif blocky font.
